Actually the journalist was asking them how they felt about not being eligible for awards in America because of woke ideology and diversity quotas in Hollywood.

4-5 years ago, a couple of “white guys” were cast to appear in a commercial for the Super Bowl and showed up for filming when a representative for the company whose products were being featured in the commercial threw them out because they allegedly looked “too straight”. So, the impetus behind so much of the discrimination has been on the part of the agents for this corporation or other. The better actor being thrown out because he looks too straight to this “agent” has been allowed regardless of being racist, sexist, etc. or violating the sexual orientation of the actor involved. The message has been clear…..be a tranny or weirdo if you want a paying job.
I think it was a valid question and raises a legitimate concern about the recently imposed “woke” eligibility standards for films. Those standards, in fact, DO prohibit most foreign films, as well as a majority of films that attempt historical accuracy, from eligibility for major awards.
There were, IN FACT, very few non-European Vikings, for example. Or non-European Scots fighting against English invaders, etc., etc. So, what I heard the “reporter” ask was essentially, “Do you think it’s unfair that your historically based film will be ineligible for any major awards, no matter how otherwise award-worthy it is?”
And I think that’s a legitimate question and concern for filmmakers who try to achieve historical accuracy.
