It’s easy to say to just pack up and leave but that also takes money and a lot of planning. My husband and I were lucky because we weren’t in any big hurry, we just knew we wanted to leave CA. We both were still working – there was no desperation. We contacted chambers of commerce in various southern states – my hubby is from Kentucky. We got a lot of literature from realtors (our mailman probably hated us!) – no email yet. We thought we would settle in KY but we actually fell in love with E. Tenn. and we had a new beginning. My boss in CA was great and managed to lay me off so I could collect unemployment in TN (they were going to have a small layoff in a few weeks but I wasn’t on the list.), plus I got 4 weeks severance pay + medical continuance for 4 weeks. My husband & I found jobs shortly after we got settled and the rest is history. I was lucky then in 1994 but I don’t know what we would have done if we were still there now. Unfortunately those in a desperate situation don’t always have things fall in place smoothly for the most part and many of them are stuck with no other options.
That just applies to STATE income tax. They can still deduct them from their FEDERAL income tax. This is why it is important to NEVER vote for a DEMOCRAT for ANY office….even the town dogcatcher. Otherwise, move to a Republican-controlled state and vote for REPUBLICANS only.
